I’m pretty sure that almost every food blogger, especially if they bake on occasion, has a go-to plain sugar cookie recipe. It helps to have a white cake, white bread, and sugar cookie recipe to expand on. This is mine. I use this dough as a ‘starter kit’ for more elaborate cookie recipes. It’s fun to turn this into frosted cookies, or dip in chocolate, but this is absolutely perfect on its own. That’s what I like about it. Adding sprinkles or chocolate chips can only improve an already delicious cookie.
Gather your ingredients and preheat oven to 375.
In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla.
Gradually blend in the dry ingredients with a mixer until everything is mixed well.
Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet about 2 minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
